Biography:
I am 68 years old and have always been drawn to woodworking. I am also an avid hunter, so call making seemed like a natural choice. I made my first call in 2006 – after several failed attempts, it turned out pretty good. When I showed it to one of my hunting friends, he wanted one like it. I made about 8 calls from then until late 2007, when I started thinking about retiring from construction. I make one of a kind calls, using mainly exotic hardwoods and some domestic wood. I like to finish the wood in its natural state. I seal with a mixture of carnauba wax and shellac, which waterproofs while allowing the beauty of the wood to show. All my tone boards are hand made one at a time using metal or mylar reeds. In addition to single and double reed mallard calls, I make wood duck, goose, deer grunt calls, turkey box and slate calls. So far I find this to be the most rewarding hobby I have ever undertaken, and will strive to get better with each call that I make.
